Hi! I’m Dr. Erica L. Bailen, M.D., a pediatrician proudly serving families in Louisville, Kentucky through Direct Pediatrics.

My background (and why I practice the way I do)

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Indiana University, then went on to complete my medical degree at the University of Louisville. I trained as a pediatrician through my residency at the University of Florida. After residency, I practiced in Charlotte, North Carolina with Arboretum Pediatrics, and later joined Norton Children’s Medical Associates – Lakeview.

I’m a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and I’m board certified in pediatrics. Over the years, one thing has become crystal clear to me: families don’t just need medical expertise—they need someone who knows them, understands what’s normal for their child, and can respond quickly when concerns pop up.

Being “human” in pediatric care

I don’t believe pediatrics should feel transactional. When you reach out, you deserve to feel heard—not rushed. I aim for visits that are relationship-driven, with enough time to ask questions, review what you’re seeing at home, and make a plan you feel confident in.

In short, I’m a clinician who values:

  • Clear communication

  • Better access

  • Continuity (so you’re not starting over every time)

  • Practical guidance for real life—especially nights and weekends, when worries tend to spike

And yes—I can also be a 24/7 option for questions

Here’s the piece I think families appreciate most: while my care is truly local and personal, the AI support option allows parents to ask questions and get guidance outside of usual hours.

That means you can discuss what’s going on—symptoms, feeding concerns, sleep worries, medication questions, general “is this normal?” type issues—without needing to wait until the next business day or go through a traditional call center experience.

If your concern needs a real-time conversation or an in-person plan, the AI can also help you schedule meeting times, so you’re not stuck guessing or waiting in uncertainty. The goal is to bridge the gap between “something feels off” and “I can get help.”
